Many parents notice that their child starts below their grade level in Outstanda.

This is intentional.

Students are not formally assessed at the start. Instead, they begin at a lower level and move up quickly if the material is easy for them.

Why this works

  • It builds confidence early
  • It makes the system feel manageable and even fun
  • It quickly shows where real gaps exist

If your child already knows the material, they move through it quickly.

If they get stuck, that tells us something important.

What this helps identify

Many students appear to be at grade level but are missing one or two foundational skills.

Those gaps are often hidden in regular schoolwork.

Starting lower helps reveal them.

What to expect

Students often move up quickly in the beginning.

This is a good sign.

It means they are reinforcing what they already know while moving toward the level where they need support.

Important idea

Starting lower is not a step backward.

It is the fastest way to move forward with confidence and accuracy.
